A magazine concerning the ‘politics of space and bodies’, which along with its podcast and blog, is building an archive for anti-colonial, anti-racist, queer, and feminist struggles. Now published in English, French, and Spanish (we have the English version). The second in a series commemorating ten years in print, this September-October issue is the outcome of a fruitful collaboration, guest edited by ten of The Funambulist’s most faithful fans with the goal of generating features on subject matter previously overlooked. Inside, topics span publishing under fascism, tourism as a cloaked continuation of slavery in the Dominican Republic, adoption across continents, a Latin American perspective on ‘the politics of motherhood’, and more. Plus, four readers’ select their favourite issue and contributing writer Sinthujan Varatharajah unpacks the publication’s history of community-building and engaging in contentious and complex, but also essential, conversations.  On the cover, Lori Micu’s abstracted map combines concepts from the magazine’s 44th and 57th issues, recalling the notion of ‘a desert continuum’ in defiance of a homogenous worldview, as well as a hopeful quote by Daniel Kauwila Mahi: ‘You can’t rattle people who know the earth and sky are on their side.’ On the Journal:At work with Léopold Lambert… ‘Two thirds of our incomes come from subscriptions (annual or monthly, digital only or print and digital), which is really the key point of our ‘business model’ (always a word that sounds odd in the context of an anti-capitalist publication…).’READ MORE thefunambulist.net
