The Architectural Review

1507

Founded in 1896, the AR has a proud tradition of challenge and criticism, scouring the globe for architecture that provokes and inspires, and relying on its immense archive and critically acclaimed writers to shape architectural discourse. Combine this with a rich history of contemporary editorial design and you have a magazine of interest beyond its natural architectural audience. The December 2023/January 2024 is the house and home issue including both the AR House shortlist and a look inside famous artists' homes. The theme throughout this issue is Gesamtkunstwerk  - ‘a large-scale spatial representation of an entire creative world.’ Take for example artists Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant's farmhouse Charleston (featured on the cover), which not only housed members of the creative Bloomsbury set but also became an art object itself with all surfaces and furniture painted in bright shapes and floral patterns. This latest issue is a hearty dose of domestic inspiration sure to inspire creative nesting.  On videomagCulture Meets Architectural Review, recorded at the magCulture Shop on 13 April 2023.Watch now architectural-review.com
