Random Photo Journal

3

From Nigeria comes the amusingly titled Random Photo Journal, which presents itself as ‘a study of the social ecology of neighbourhoods, daily lives and living conditions’ in countries across West Africa—Senegal, Uganda, Madagascar, Cameroon and more. With a strong focus on people and community, the largely full bleed glossy imagery is accompanied by a mix of fiction, interviews with African photographers and filmmakers, and even idiosyncratic insights into photography; ‘making a good street photograph is like being an expert pickpocket’ is one such example.  This third issue is themed Ekó-systems, in reference to the former name of Lagos, and is dedicated to exploring the hustle and bustle of a city in which, as editor Arinzechukwu Patrick writes, ‘what you see is what you get, and the more you look the less you see.’
