Published since 1967, Flash Art is dedicated to writing and thinking about contemporary art. The theme for this Fall 2025 issue is ‘Psychic Whiplash’, a phrase lifted from writer Philippa Snow’s exploration of the way grief acts as a catalyst for isolation whilst paradoxically increasing vulnerability towards a ‘feeling of hyper-awareness’. Spotlighting contemporary artists whose work responds to this distinctly postmodern fractured mental state, this issue’s cover feature introduces the American artist Paul McCarthy, who’s work explores the darker undercurrents of the human psyche through absurd, provocative and humorous performance art and installations. Inside, you’ll also find features on the Romanian sculptor Andra Ursuta, multimedia artist Aki Goto, and a deep dive on Seoul’s algorithmic architecture. flash---art.com
