Founded by furniture designer and architect, Gio Ponti — with the subtitle ‘Architecture and decor of the modern home in the city and in the country’ — Domus is a hefty Italian bible of built and inhabited space.  This is the January 2024 issue, the first of ten that will be guest edited by Norman Foster throughout the year and revolve around his chosen theme, Futures: ‘Looking back in time, it seems to me that in every field of human activity – and my own in terms of cities and buildings is no exception – we have made extraordinary progress. This is not to underestimate or belittle the challenges that confront us today... To that end, I have invited a number of my favourite authors to contribute essays to the series. They are varied in their backgrounds and disciplines, but they all share an ability to confront us with facts as data, rather than prejudices and emotion.‘ Featuring Buckminster Fuller, Studio Gang, Matthew Foreman, Bjarke Ingels Group, Steven Pinker, Johan Norberg and Canadian photographer Edward Burtynsky, whose work, emphasising the environmental effects of urbanisation, will feature on each of the covers. Plus, an insert by Irish painter Michael Craig-Martin, celebrating 30 St. Mary Axe, aka The Gherkin.   domusweb.it
