Civilization

7

‘Conceived, written, made, printed and forever sleepless under the spell of New York City, which never once let go’ Several years after the crazed AI of issue six, the seventh Civilization is a calmer affair by it’s own standards, but still a punch in the face compared to most magazines that pass our doors. Interlocking texts fill 14 of the pages (the final two a double page spread poster reading ‘I forgive me for the mess I made’), 80,000 words, all black and white with bright orange details and interventions throughout. Think Tetris rather than a traditonal grid structure. On the cover, Kurt Woerpel’s angel mascot is in flames—the burning theme has been appearing through the issues’s social media promos. As ever, a brilliant if terrifying record of mundane day-to-day language and the way it twists and turns when transferred from the overheard to the printed page. civilization.bigcartel.com
