‘A community magazine showcasing extraordinary foreign talent in America’ The brainchild of New York creative studio Special Special, 4N provides an inclusive space for foreign creatives to display their work within the framework of a formalised publication. In outlining the motivations behind the community-oriented biannual, the team explicitly acknowledge ‘the challenges faced by foreigners in obtaining sufficient credentials to demonstrate their value for staying in the United States’. Issue three is guest edited by New York-based Taiwanese arts writer and curator Annette An-Jen Liu and holds a magnifying glass up to the chimera of the American dream, exploring the realities currently faced by foreign creatives living and working within the United States. The twelve creatives platformed within this issue hail from around the globe and work across a diverse array of mediums from food blogging to spatial design. Highlights include cover artist Mengru Zhou’s vibrant, psychologically probing paintings and a poignant editors letter from the November 2024 issue of Impulse Magazine, transforming anger at US anti-immigration policies into productive action. 4nmag.com
